Let me tell you about Marcela
Marcela Garcia Cabrera is a digital creative, designer and content creator based in Amsterdam. “You are creative, a leader, helpful and honest.” - D. Lequin, project partner.
Marcela was born in Francisco Morázan, Honduras. At the age of five, she moved to Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where she learned to speak Dutch. In 2017, she graduated from high school with a HAVO diploma and an additional diploma in Spanish Language and Literature.
Marcela graduated from the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences with a degree in Creative Business. Throughout her studies, she developed a strong affinity for design, marketing, and social media. She mastered programs like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and XD, turning her creative ideas into reality. Alongside her design skills, Marcela cultivated a team spirit mindset, enabling her to collaborate effectively with diverse groups of people. She sees herself as a leader with a strong voice, open to new ideas and adept at delegating tasks within her team. She prides herself on being receptive to feedback, constantly striving to improve her design and social skills.
Currently, Marcela is a Junior Graphic Designer at MCI The Netherlands, where she has been bringing creative ideas to life for almost two years. At MCI, she has had the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects and events. From transforming the office with vibrant murals and window stickers to designing comprehensive branding for events like the 26th World Energy Congress and the 2025 World Glaucoma Congress in Honolulu, Hawaii, her work is all about creating engaging and cohesive visual experiences.
She has also enjoyed designing fun and informative assets, such as social media posts for the International Conference on Emergency Medicine (ICEM) and playful mascots for MCI's employee wellness initiatives. One of her favorite projects was developing a unique 'cookbook' website to replace traditional staff manuals, where each dish corresponded to a specific topic, blending creativity with practicality.
Whether it's crafting logos for new ventures like Dammie, a sandwich shop, or creating themed content for social media and events, Marcela thrives on bringing fresh, innovative ideas to the table. Her work is a blend of boldness and charm, always aiming to capture the essence of the brand and engage the audience.
Outside of work, Marcela loves exploring new design trends and finding inspiration in everyday life. Her goal is to continue growing as a designer, always pushing the boundaries of creativity and delivering impactful visual stories.

I am currently 24 years old. I came to the Netherlands in 2005, so that amounts to nineteen years! I came here as a little girl with my mother and three big suitcases.
BTW: did you know I am fluent in Dutch, Spanish and English?

The thing I like most about design is that no idea is too wild. When I find inspiration, I can spend hours working on a project without getting tired of it. I also love the fact that design almost never feels like a requirement. Of course, there are deadlines, but it never feels rushed because of the fun you have while doing it. Another thing I love about design is the admiration and the 'wow' effect you create in the people around you. Hearing, "Wow! I would’ve never thought about doing it this way," is one of the best reactions you can get when delivering a product.

My favorite thing to do is bring an idea to life from scratch. Getting into the nitty-gritty during the brainstorming phase and creating something wonderful from that is one of the most satisfying things to do. Doing this with a team makes it even better!
